Hogs looking for lunch

September 22, 2008

I guess these guys are looking for a little lunch, this is a spot I call the jello hole.  I have been baiting this spot with strawberry jello and corn and they usually get in it the night I bait it.  This was during the full moon I think.

Food plots

September 10, 2008

We got all of our food plots in today.  We have planted two in oats and turnips, one in wheat, and one in clover.  Alan and Chance stayed after dark to make sure it gone done today, then we got a little shower, could not have worked out better.  We also had a biologist on the island today and his advice was very encouraging.   Things are really starting to take shape and we are all very excited.

Staff dove hunt

September 6, 2008

We had a great opening day dove hunt, all the hard work putting in the field was well worth it.  We really had to work hard to get this thing done.  Shelby gets the gold star, without her hard work we would have never found a lot of these birds.  I am eating mine tonite!

This sow and her piglets are regular visitors to a couple of feeders.

Ryan-

Like your blog. I think this is a great way to let folks know about the great hunting at Arbuckle Island. The place is absolutely infested with hogs right now. The river was up for almost six months and the hogs have been in virtual isolation for this entire time. Of course they’ve been doing what Hogs do best, breeding, getting big, and tearing up the fields. They’re not at all used to seeing people right now. I’ve been out on the tractor cleaning the place up for you and I am seeing hogs even in the middle of the day. These hogs hadn’t heard a rifle or seen much traffic in over half a year. I’m sure your season will start off with a bang. If you end up shooting that monster boar with the red spot I was telling you about the other day – call me out there. I wanna see that guy on the ground. He’s by far the biggest hog I’ve ever seen.
Good Luck
